Little Lady

My children have been showing their displeasure with each other in increasingly physical means. Obviously this is not acceptable and prompts many bathroom discussions. My boys have been told since they were little that their job as males is to protect females. Lately I've also been reminding them that I'm raising gentlemen, and gentlemen treat each other with respect.

My girls have had plenty of bathroom discussions as well.

Mommy: "Honor, I am raising young ladies. A lady controls her temper and does not hit."

Honor: "But I am not a lady! I'm a farm girl!"

Yes, I laughed.

Hiding

When I ask Conan where something is (his shoes, a book, his hand up his sleeve, etc.) he usually answers, "it's hiding!" (even if he knows where it is...).

He also enjoys "hiding" under his blankets at naptime...and eventually falling asleep.

I love this age!

Truly Thankful

There are days when I wake up and truly get emotional over where God has placed me. I get to live here. I get to have 5 beautiful children. I get to have a husband who truly is an honorable man. I get goats ;-). I do not say this to brag. I am truly humbled by this. I have been blessed beyond my dreams and I am just overwhelmingly thankful. In a world where it is considered normal to share your sorrows, I want to be sure to share my blessings. Thank you God.

For Samuel's Future Wife...

Samuel: "Do you think my wife will like bunk beds?"

Mommy: "You mean, for your kids?"

Samuel: "No, for me and my wife to sleep on."

Mommy: "I think your wife might like bunk beds, but she probably will want to cuddle with her husband...I like cuddling with Daddy."

Samuel: "Well, she might like bunk beds and I think they're a really good idea. They really save a lot of floor space."

So...Samuel's future wife...you have a tough decision ahead of you. Just thought you should be prepared.

Little Milestones

Every night I pray with Conan before I tuck him in. I always ask beforehand, "who are we talking to when we pray?" and he has always either been quiet or started mumbling about something else. So I take the time to have a mini-devotional with him and tell him that we are praying to God, the One who made him, and all our family, and the trees, etc.  Conan usually listens very carefully, but doesn't say a word until I finish praying.

Then he usually talks about trucks...

Last night was different. Kneeling by his bed, I asked Conan who we were praying to.  "God!" was his clear and excited response. It was the first time I'd ever heard that sweet name from his lips. Such a blessing!

I started my prayer, "Dear Heavenly Father..."

"Wait, wait, wait!!!" His pudgy little hand shot out and grabbed my hands from my face. Then he placed his hands on my cheeks and turned my head so he could look into my eyes. "JESUS!!!" Another first and my heart overflowed.

Knowing what he wanted, I changed my prayer. "Dear Jesus..."

Every day Conan brings our family so much joy, but it's the little "firsts" like these that I'll treasure forever.
