Semantics

While I was putting the girls' hair up into buns for ballet class, Samuel stood in the bathroom door and belched...I think on accident.  From our bed, my darling husband started laughing and offering up high fives.  Not wanting to encourage this behavior, I said, "Honey! Stop encouraging him! I am trying to teach Samuel to be a gentleman...  Samuel, gentlemen do not burp in front of ladies!"

Samuel, who is very proud of his "gentleman" status, quickly defended himself. "I didn't burp in front of ladies!  I burped behind ladies!"

Very literal, that one.

Future Devotional Writer

In Language Arts, Honor and Connor were asked to predict what would happen next in their story.  The story was about a boy who wanted to buy a blue bike, but couldn't afford it at this time. His friend suggested posting signs to work for his neighbors and earn money that way.  He raked yards and cleaned garages and earned money.

This is how Honor predicted the story would end:

Sam counted out his money. "All right!" Sam said, "Blue bike, here I come."  Suddenly the phone rang. It was Mrs. Murphy again. "I need some help picking all the weeds in my garden." Sam thought for a moment. He already had enough money. Then he remembered a Bible verse from Galatians 5:13. He knew he should follow it.

Pretty good for an 8 year old...
