As I was tucking Ariana in to bed, my mouth opened wide for an unusually long yawn. Ariana noticed my fillings in the back of my teeth and had to ask about them...
"Mommy! You have some black stuff on your teeth!" she exclaimed, trying hard to reach into my mouth.
"Yep. It's okay...they are supposed to be there. They don't come off."
Her little eyebrows creased together with concern. "Oh no, Mommy! You need an ice pack!"

Thought Provoking Naptime Question
.
Mommy: "Honor! Stop moving around and go to sleep!"
Honor: "I have a good idea. Why don't you just go to sleep and I'll stay up and read?"

Hmmm....Good Question...
.
Honor, after taking a bite of a baby carrot:
"Mom, did God taste our food so He knew it would be good?"

Ariana's on a Roll...
.
Five minutes after the last post, Ariana walked into the kitchen carrying a broken Lego "doll" that I had put back together a dozen times this evening alone.
"Mom, you have to fix this..."
"No, I do NOT have to fix that," I replied firmly.
"Fine. I'll fix it," she said as she turned to walk out of the kitchen.
"DAAAADDD...you have to fix this..."

Tell Mommy
.
Ariana, being the Mommy that she is, was busy telling Samuel to stop what he was doing.
"No, no, Samuel," she crooned.
Daddy was sitting in the living room and heard her constant admonition. "Tell Mommy what's going on, Ariana."
With perfect timing, Ariana turned to me and asked in complete seriousness, "What's going on?"
Ba da bing!

Yellow and Blue Make Green
.
I cleaned the toilets today while the kids were up. This is not something I typically do around them because for some strange reason I have a fear of them being around the toilet bowl cleaner, as if they would suddenly start drinking toilet water if it changed color. Irrational, I know. I have a lot of irrational fears around my kids' safety--like not allowing them anywhere near the kitchen when the broiler is on for fear of them getting burned. My husband is quick to point out that the kids are not going to go climbing into a hot oven, that even if they did get burned, it would just be a quick burn, and that they wouldn't sit there holding their hand on it until it melted off. However, I can't help but panic if my kids are anywhere within a ten foot radius of the oven when the broiler is turned on. I bend and contort my body in strange ways to form some sort of barrier in the off chance that one of them will trip and go flying across the room right into the open oven door.
But I digress...
Today I cleaned the toilets while the kids were up...a big step in being rational. I even left the cleaner in the bowl in the bathroom in our bedroom for a while. Unattended. (You may now applaud my courage...)
When naptime rolled around, I sent Honor in our room to do her business. She came running out into the living room.
"Mommy! The water is blue!!!"
"Yes, dear. Mommy put cleaner in there."
"But it's blue!"
"It's okay, honey. You can use the toilet. It's not going to hurt you." (Now I really should be getting some applause!)
"I don't want to!" and she ran into the other bathroom to do her business because apparently blue water is scary.
Later, as I was tucking her in for an hour of "I'm not tired! I don't want to take a nap!" rest and relaxation, Honor asked me the following question, which I thought was quite ingenious of her...
"Mommy, if I go pee in the blue water, will it turn green?"
Isn't she smart?

Secret Nose Shake
.
Ariana has initiated her own nightly routine of kisses. I am not allowed to leave the room until we have done the kisses just right. I feel like we have our own secret handshake, except it isn't our hands that touch--it's our noses.
Mommy kisses each of Ariana's cheeks, her forehead and her chin, then Ariana kisses each of Mommy's cheeks, her forehead and her chin. Then we rub noses. For a long time. And her "nose" talks.
"Whatcha doing?" says the high pitched "nose".
"I'm giving Ariana kisses," I reply.
"Oh. I have a kitty."
"That's nice."
"Come inside and see the kitty," her nose invites at which point I break off the nose kiss and tell her that I don't want to see anything that's inside her nose. She laughs and gives me a giant hug.
Sigh. I find joy in the littlest things...
