Dress Up

A loud yell from upstairs interrupted my Tetris trance. What was that???

Going upstairs to investigate, I hear Connor playing in his room. It is nap time. He is not supposed to be playing in his room--or at least he is not supposed to be playing loud enough so that I can hear him playing in his room.

I enter his room and stand amazed that he has broken every single naptime rule.

He is jumping around on his bed yelling and screaming (apparently fighting bad guys...); his lights are on; the blanket that we put over his window on the space shuttle bed to block out light has been pulled down; his pillows are inside the shuttle cockpit...he is naked.

Yes...I was unprepared for the sight that would greet me upon entering his room. Connor had taken off every last shred of his clothing...and dressed his stuffed animals in them.

His blue teddy bear named Fred, was wearing his button down shirt; his Tigger was wearing his pants; and his purple teddy bear named David was wearing his whitey tighties.

It took every ounce of discipline I had to keep a straight face while scolding him. I then got him dressed, reorganized his room and removed all of his stuffed animals. This was accompanied by wailing and gnashing of teeth by Connor.

I left the room and he was still crying WAY too loud so I went back in and told him he needed to be quiet. He held up the little blankie that goes with Fred and told me that I forgot to take out one of his toys.

Yes...I have a hard job...

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have been trying to teach my children all about Thanksgiving traditions all week. They understand that it is a holiday where you give thanks to God for all of the blessings you've received and eat a bunch of turkey. Pilgrims, Mayflower, Feasts...all of that went over their heads; but turkeys say "gobble, gobble"--we got that down!

As part of our Thanksgiving craft, I thought I would be clever and make little turkeys out of their hand prints. Well, I made the hand prints, but never got around to making the turkeys. What I did instead was sit Honor, Connor and Ariana down at the table and told them that Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks to God. Then I asked them what they were thankful for...and wrote it down word for word. Here are their answers:


Connor (who basically looked around the room and made a list):

Cinderella


Ariana received this beautiful Cinderella doll from her grandma for her birthday. She loves it! She hasn't let go of it since she got it last night. Grandma got it for her because Honor got a baby doll for her birthday that she loves and she thought Ariana would like her own baby. Well, because she is Cinderella, she can NOT be a baby.

Connor: Does she have a diaper?

Ariana: Yes! (actually I think it is just painted on underwear, but it happens to be white so that makes it a diaper...)

Connor: So she is a baby!

Ariana: Noooooooo! She's a Moooommmmyy!

Ariana

My baby girl turns 3 today! I can hardly believe it!

My husband occasionally accuses me of having a favorite...Ariana. Although that is absolutely not true, I can understand why there might be some confusion--she does slightly have me wrapped around her little finger. Well actually, she literally has me wrapped around her finger--her favorite activity is "walking me" around the house. Anyone who has tried to look into her golden brown eyes while she smiles her infectious smile will understand. Even Daddy is capable of falling into her charms. It is very hard to talk sternly to someone who is so darn cute!

And I have to admit that I give into her demands more than any of the other children. I try not to, but it is hard. First because she is so cute! And second, because she is the middle child. Honor and Connor always get to try things first and Samuel demands more of my attention simply because of his age, so Ariana often gets "set aside" in the shuffle. She is so sweet that she doesn't mind, but I feel a need to make up for any unintentional slights that I might give her throughout the day. And I suppose that is turning her into a little princess. But if the little princess is sweet and kind, isn't it okay?

But our love affair stems from the day she first arrived. She did not arrive at the same time as Connor. She had been sent to another foster home first since we had only been licensed for one child at the time. That foster mother claimed she was too difficult--she cried all the time and kept her daughter up all night. The case worker called -- could we take her? Since we had never wanted to split the siblings up in the first place, we hurriedly said yes and they rushed our license for two through.

We got her two weeks after Connor. She was born at a normal birth weight, but at a little more than 4 months old she weighed less than Samuel did when he was born and swam in 0-3 month clothes. Although she had already gained a little weight under the other foster mother's care, that particular foster mother had not had a newborn for 15 years and didn't know what to do with her. We immediately put her on a feeding/napping routine and she thrived. She slept through the night the very first night and we never had any issues with her waking and crying. She gained a pound the first week we had her. She was easy. Since she knew when she would be fed and when she would sleep next, she didn't have any reason to cry. Of course she had her preference...Mommy.

As long as Mommy was around, she was content and happy. She would "settle" for Daddy, but he was "not the mama". At that time she had 2 1-hour visits a week and cried the entire time--it was a change in her routine and she didn't trust the adults at the visit. Immediately upon entering my vehicle however she returned to her normal sweetness.

As she got older, her Mommy preference increased. I was the favorite crawling goal; the favorite walking goal. When I would go upstairs, she would cry. When I would go in the other room, she would cry--even when Daddy was in the room. I remember one time when she was about 18 months old, I went to get some take-out for dinner and left her at home. Daddy called me about 10 minutes later. She had been sitting at the door to the garage for 10 minutes straight screaming "Mommy!" at the top of her lungs. She didn't stop until I came home 10 minutes later. She was very attached. Who wouldn't love such devotion?

Thankfully things eased up a little when Samuel was born. We had all been very worried about how she would suffer when there was more competition for "Mommy's love", but instead of making her separation anxiety worse, it made it much better. She was now a "big sister". She became my big helper. When I would nurse Samuel, she would sit either next to me or on what was left of my lap and watch tv with us. When I changed his diaper, she handed me the wet wipes. I never once witnessed the jealousy I was sure would exist. Even today, she is the one most likely to play with Samuel.

And she has grown into a beautiful little girl. She is no longer the little itty bitty thing she was when she first arrived. She is the same size as Connor! She has gorgeous long wavy locks that hang down to the middle of her back. She is always smiling, dancing, singing, laughing. She tells me stories and picks up after herself. She is almost potty trained. She thinks she is 4, but that is to be expected. She loves and adores Honor. She is a "mommy" to Samuel and a dancing partner for Connor. I could not imagine my life without my precious Ariana.

When we finally adopt her, her middle name will officially change to Jane. She is very proud of her middle name which the case worker told me we could go ahead and start getting her used to. Because I never liked her middle name before, I never called her by it. I called Connor, Connor Owen; Honor, Honor Elizabeth; and Samuel, Samuel Ai...but she was always just Ariana. Within a few days of calling her Ariana Jane, she became very possessive of it. If I called her just Ariana, she would stand up straight and demand, "No. Not Iana! Iana JANE!" I love hearing her say "Iana Jane."

Jane means "God is Gracious". God has been so Gracious throughout this whole process. He graciously brought her out of a horrible situation where she had little hope of survival and even less hope of a meaningful future. He graciously helped her to thrive in our care. He graciously blessed our family with a daughter that loves to play with her siblings and is growing more and more fun every day. And He graciously blessed my life with a beautiful child who brightens my every day; from the "MOMMY!!" first thing in the morning, to the "I love you Mommy! Goodnight!" last thing every night and every second in between.

God is so Gracious!

My Sisters

After shoving Ariana down for daring to try to share her toys, Honor decided to apologize.

"I'm sorry Ariana. Would you like to play with me and my sisters?" 'Counting' on her fingers, Honor announced, "Their names are Nesta, Ella, Besta, Gesta, Sprella, Grilla, and Sister."

Mommy mentally thanked God that He hasn't blessed me with that many children!

Be Careful

I'm sure I've said, "Be careful or you are going to crack your head open!" at least 1000 times. The kids often finish the sentence when I ask them to be careful, "Or I'll crack my head open?" Yep.

Today Honor put a new twist on it.

We were about to walk downstairs and I put my hand on her back to guide her to the railing...

"Don't! You'll roll me down and hurt my crack!"

My Kids' Daddy

The father son bond never ceases to amaze me. Yes, Connor and Samuel both LOVE their mommy without end--I am the one they come to when they are in pain, when they need comfort, when they are proud of themselves and when they just want some attention. But DADDY is who they emulate.

Connor looks up to Daddy and studies his every move. He bites his nails just like Daddy. He stands just like Daddy. In church, during prayer, he glances out of the corner of his eyes so he can fold his hands EXACTLY like Daddy. He tries to make Mommy laugh, just like Daddy. He wants to go to work with Daddy, to fix trucks with Daddy, to watch movies with Daddy. It's all about Daddy.

Samuel is just as funny. He LOVES to roughhouse with Daddy. He listens to what Daddy says and tries to copy him. He plays with trucks and cars and tools--all the "manly" toys.

Yes, they love their Mommy, but Daddy is the one they want to be like.

Yesterday the case worker came over for what I hope was our last visit with him--he should have it moved over to adoptions by next month. We were discussing the kids' dads while they were in the other room and we didn't think they were paying attention. We weren't saying anything bad of course, I was just curious what kind of information that we would get about them once the kids were finally adopted. The case worker said something along the lines of "we think Connor's dad is in Texas, but we're not 100% sure who he is" and from the other room, without missing a beat, Connor said, "No, my Daddy's right there!" pointing at my husband. For Connor, my husband is the only Daddy he has ever known and he is very proud of his Daddy.

All of this reminds me of two things. First one of my favorite songs:

Hmmm...just reading the lyrics brings tears to my eyes. It has always been a reminder to me that I need to be careful of all that I do because I am a Living Bible for my children. And it has always been a prayer for me for my husband that he will be even more of a leader in our home (although he is really a great father and husband already!).

And second, I am reminded of a plaque I gave my own father several years back:

Anyone can be a FATHER,
But it takes someone special
to be a DADDY.

I have been blessed with an amazing husband, but the kids have been blessed with a "Daddy"--not just a father. He cares for them, loves them, plays with them and is actively involved in EVERY aspect of their lives. He is patient and loving and kind. He comes home from work and "hangs out" with his kids. When he was in Iowa for four days for his grandfather's funeral/mini-vacation, he missed his kids.

Watching him with our children makes me love and appreciate my husband more than I could ever have imagined!

To Spray or Not to Spray...THAT is the Question...

For all you bad guys out there...we have an alarm system. We don't attempt to hide this piece of information...there are stickers on most doors and windows. Our particular security system comes complete with motion detectors on the first floor. We diligently set these every time we leave the house or go to bed.

Today we chose to go on a happy outing with the children to the library--that was great fun. After the library, we stopped by the local Office Max so that I could print out some paperwork and buy a couple of school supplies.

That was when we received the call...or didn't receive the call. ADT called us to tell us that our motion detector had been tripped, however the call went straight into my voicemail and they didn't leave a message. They then tried my husband's phone, but he only had his work phone on him, not his personal phone. So they called the police. Then they called my father-in-law who called my husband's work phone and informed us of the situation...

We immediately started heading home, but it would be another 25 minutes before we could get there (everything is far away out here which is why we try to make all our errands at one time!). I frantically called my neighbors--ten minutes later we finally heard from them. By then the police had already arrived. The neighbor called me back and informed me that there had been a slight incident....

Apparently when the sheriff had arrived, they heard our dog going crazy inside. Generally when alarms go off, it is just faulty wiring or some other mistake, however because Jasmine was so loud, the officer thought there might actually be a problem. So he knocked on the door. No answer. He checked the door, made sure it was locked and walked around the back. The back patio door was also locked, however we have a dog door. He reached his hand down to lift of the dog door and Jasmine attacked. She did not bite him, but she scared him enough that he pulled out his pepper spray and got her in the eyes.

When we came home 15 minutes later they were already gone. They left the doorknob hanger above. Jasmine looked horrible...her eyes were bloodshot and she could barely open them. We took her to the vet just to be on the safe side and they assured us that she will be fine and gave us an ointment to put in her eyes for the next few days. Poor Jasmine.

I thought it was funny that the police officer had originally written "large" and then crossed it out and wrote "medium" sized dog. She must have looked really large to scare him into using his pepper spray. My neighbor said the officer felt bad that he had to use it. That made me feel a little better.

The pepper spray is still sort of on her fur. We gave her 3 baths out in the yard and washed her off really well, but I was petting her at the vets and when I came home I rubbed my eyes--OW!!!! I can only imagine how horrible she must feel :-(.

I thought it was little excessive that he felt the need to leave a door hanger making us feel bad for our "false alarm"...I mean he injured our dog! Did he really need to rub it in???

Oh well. We learned two valuable lessons from this.

a. We don't need our motion detector on while we are gone...our door alarm should be plenty if someone wants to rob us. We think Jasmine accidentally tripped it trying to get at some crackers that were left out on the table...she'd never tripped it before, but there's no need to risk her appetite in the future!

and

b. Jasmine is a fantastic guard dog. We are very proud of her.

I Want Mommy....I Think???

.

Every morning I have a small fight with Samuel. Well, two fights to be exact. The first one is in regards to changing his diaper...he is still very much the tornado of old.

The second fight comes when it is time to get in his high chair (right after said diaper change). To get him to stop crying from the diaper change, I cheerfully announce "It's breakfast time!" This works. He gets excited and runs to the pantry, screaming "Cracker!" in reference to the graham cracker he gets when he wakes up from his afternoon nap. But unlike after nap, he doesn't get to eat his breakfast free range.

He gets to the pantry door and turns to look at me...walking to the high chair. His little face turns into a pitiful frown and tears pour from his eyes as he realizes that breakfast means confinement to "the chair". Slowly, so as not to scare him, I walk over to the kitchen. This immediately sends him running to the living room. When he gets to the living room he turns to face me with his arms in the air. Then, as I get closer, he remembers that he doesn't want to be picked up and a whole new round of sobs rip from his throat as he wants comforted from the pain of having his freedom removed, but the only person he wants comfort from is also the one wanting to take that freedom away. It is a conundrum.

If a car happens to be nearby, he will hop on in an attempt to speed away to freedom, but unfortunately for him, the car only slows his escape and allows Mommy to catch him sooner...

Poor Samuel.

Some Good News to Balance Out the Bad...

.

For those of you who know me mostly from my blog, I received some FANTASTIC news today....basically the news we've been waiting for since June. The appeal by Connor and Ariana's biological mother did not go through--the kids are now legally up for adoption by us!!!!!

We knew the appeal wouldn't go through, but it was nice to have that sewn up--especially since we were told it wouldn't be done until February!

So now we just have to wait a little while longer while the case gets transferred over to adoptions and we get a new adoptions case worker. Then it will be a few more months of paperwork and red tape, followed by a month or two of waiting for a court date to make it official. Then we will have a GIANT ADOPTION PARTY. We can't wait!!!!!!!

Our family will be officially complete in just a few more months and we can finally call them with their full new names!

One of the Last True American Heroes is Gone

.

My husband's grandpa passed away on Monday--doing what he loved...working hard and hanging out with his wife right up to the end. I wanted to write a tribute to this man who I only knew for a short time--7 years is not long enough for all that he was. What I can say about him is that he was the Godliest man I have ever known. He was someone that both my husband and I looked up to and by which we measured the character of a man. I think back on conversations with my husband when I had asked him the question that I knew would wound him--would your grandpa act like that in this situation?? Because although we are to compare ourselves to Christ, Grandpa Snyder was a living model right before our eyes.

I was going to write a tribute about how he fought in WWII, how he and his family were led to Christ when my mother-in-law was a child and how he actively was a witness both in word and in deed of how Christ can change a man and use a man when he is willing to be used. But I couldn't find the words. Thankfully my sister-in-law could.

If you have a moment, please pray for my husband's family as they go through their grieving process--especially his grandma. She is an exceptionally strong Christian woman, but they had a bond stronger than any other married couple I know and I'm sure she has a huge hole in her heart right now.

The Amazing Chair

.

Honor has a little red "camping chair" that she occasionally gets to sit in when we are all outside for a while. Well, that chair was put in the garage after Connor took it on their camping trip a month ago.

After the kids went to bed last night, Daddy brought out an adult-sized, red camping chair to sit outside. This morning after breakfast, Honor went to look outside and got VERY excited. I didn't know what she was so excited about until she started screaming:

"My chair grew, Mommy! My chair grew!!!"

The 2008 election is over and a new American era is on the way. The representative republic is on life support and we are operating, as Thomas Jefferson put it, as a democracy, “nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.”

The 63 million Americans, who voted for Barack Hussein Obama, believe it is “their time” to “make history” and “change America” from the land of the free and home of the brave it has been for 232 years, to something that has failed repeatedly all over the globe.

We watched the mob party in Chicago, Kenya, and the Gaza Strip. The new 51% aim to take away the rights of the other 49% as soon as possible and even known international terrorists are dancing in the streets with the news of president-elect Barack Hussein Obama.

Martin Luther King’s dream of a time when black people would be judged on the content of their character instead of the color of their skin has been set back decades, maybe forever.

Obama was elected on the basis of his “history making” skin color. 63 million Americans gave Obama a complete pass on character and voted for what they think is a black man. As Obama is only 1/8th African, they couldn’t even get that right. As they will soon learn the hard way, they elected an Arab-Muslim, not a black Christian.

But the American people have spoken. They wanted “change” and change they shall have…

Obamanation – The First 100 Days

  • Tax cuts for 95% of Americans, which includes me according to Obama (the other 5% can go to hell)
  • The Fair Indoctrination Plan, (aka Fairness Doctrine) will silence all opposition to Obama’s Marxist Plan
  • No more fighting terror abroad - Let them come to us for a change… or should I say, again.
  • The coming terror war at home will require a national police force, aka Black Panther Power
  • No more private gun ownership is needed - every home will get a brown-shirt to stand guard
  • The unbridled right to kill our young any way, any time we like, even after birth
  • Free Health Care for the poor – more expensive and less accessible health care for all others
  • Record breaking Washington corruption and tyrannical national governance
  • Corporate corruption will work inside the administration now
  • Twelve million new Democrat Party registrants, as all illegals are given full citizenship including voting rights
  • Reduced carbon emissions, since few will be able to afford to drive anymore
  • New jobs for defunct auto manufacturing workers, building wind mills and solar panels on the federal payroll
  • A return to the gold standard, since a dollar won’t be worth a dime
  • The financial markets will continue to collapse as investors continue to flee America in search of safe havens for their assets before Obama can be sworn into office

  • This is just some of what I believe we can look forward to in the first 100 days. It will take a few years for the 63 million Americans who wanted “change” to figure out what the rest of the world already knows, - socialism doesn’t work. The 5% Obama promises to rob on behalf of his constituents have already changed investment strategies to protect their earned assets. By the time Obama arrives on their doorstep, the cupboard will be empty.

    63 million Americans voted for a “black man” and got an Arab. They voted for a “Christian” and got a Muslim. They voted for a “leader” and got a man who has never led anything in his life. They voted for a “moderate” and got the most extreme leftist in U.S. political history. They voted to rob their “rich” neighbor, but the neighbor is leaving town before they can. They’re on a roll…

    Our New Rules of Engagement

    But fear not… We have a few “changes” of our own.

    The days of appeasement and bi-partisan compromise are over. Republican members of congress will wake up every morning with one thought in their mind, filibuster. You can’t pass bills you can’t bring to a vote. Democrats taught us that. Republicans have relegated themselves to full time professional obstructionists. Their sole function for the next two years is to blockade the full-scale assault on personal freedom and individual liberty which will define the Obama era.

    Live by mob rule, die by mob rule. Those are our new rules of engagement and we can already see some early results.

    California citizens passed Proposition 8 banning all same-sex marriages by way of state constitutional amendment. They are the 28th state to do so and the mob has spoken… Mob rule works for Democrats, it can work for us too. If 51% of Americans can decide to take away the rights and property of the other 49%, surely 52% can decide what the definition of marriage is…

    Under democratic rules of engagement, we must demand a national referendum on everything, including the right to life versus the right to kill.

    Democrats demand that we retreat from the war on terror because a majority of Americans want it. Well, guess what else a majority of Americans want? An even larger majority want an end to abortion on demand. Most Americans want a smaller, less expensive and less intrusive federal government. As Obama said, his victory was a victory for all Americans who thought they had lost their voice in Washington. So, all tax issues must be decided by the people by way of referendum now. This is “democracy.” The mob rules…

    Obama promises a transparent administration whereby the people would know what Washington was up to and that the people would decide what’s right for America, not corrupt Washington politicians and lobbyists. So, no more late-night, backroom deals or hidden piggyback pork-barrel bribes, at the expense of the American taxpayer. Obama needs to take every initiative to the people for approval before hand. It’s the only democratic thing to do and the only way he can hope to keep his campaign promise for the most transparent administration in history. It’s also the only way he can work with the support of the American people.

    If Obama does what he promised in this regard, maybe he really can unite the nation??? The people want a say in what Washington is doing. If Obama really gives the people that voice, he could be a real hero.

    We can do this on every issue under the sun. Obama says he is returning the power to the American people. I say, lets join in and make sure he knows what the people really want! And if by chance he was not serious about any of those campaign promises, well then…

    Thomas Jefferson told us exactly what to do in this situation

    “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.” Clearly, we have been silent way too long! Tyranny gained more than a foothold in the 2008 election. It’s time for all men and women of good conscience to be silent no more.

    Jefferson said – “A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.”

    I don’t have to tell you, but this is NOT the kind of government Barack Obama described in his campaign. He’s been very clear about this, if nothing else.

    Jefferson - “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” American leftists have been “wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them” for decades now and Obama promised a vast acceleration of that process. But it’s not what most people (the mob) want.

    “An enemy generally says and believes what he wishes.” And that’s exactly what Barack Obama and his adoring press did. They sold socialism under the guise of “progressive” governance; - they lied their way past 63 million unsuspecting Americans. But in doing it, they made promises they had no intention of keeping. Now it’s up to the people to make them keep those promises…

    Too often in the past, “our enemies have found we can reason like men, so now let us show them we can fight like men also.” I must say, I really like how Jefferson thinks!

    Obama has voted for a ban on all hand guns and assault rifles. He raised taxes on ammunition 500% in Chicago. He opposes a right to carry firearms for purpose of self-defense even though over 2 million violent crimes are stopped each year by legal gun owners. He has even voted to take away the peoples right to keep arms as a means of self-defense within their own homes.

    Once again, Jefferson provides the solution, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” More than a few red state good-ole-boys will be happy to explain this one when Obama comes for those guns he fears so much…

    Jefferson stated that “To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Yet this is the centerpiece of the Obama-Biden administration. To use the weight and power of the federal government to “force” men to “subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors;”

    We have simply been way too tolerant for far too long. Out of complete ignorance, 63 million Americans elected a man they know literally nothing about. Through patient incremental subversive infestation of our founding American principles and values, the anti-American left has reached the stage of critical masse whereby the new 51% think they can take away the rights of the other 49%. This is the “change” they have in mind.

    But I say “live free or die!”

    And when all else fails, Jefferson told us what to do...

    “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

    For those who believe the basic right to life is “alienable” by men, no rights are “unalienable.” Men, who have no respect for human life itself, have no respect for anything or anyone. The people who elected Barack Hussein Obama have no respect for your earned assets, your freedom to prosper, your right to self-determination of any kind or even your right to life itself. So, it is likely to get very ugly before it gets better. The people behind Obama are not average Americans. They are average anti-Americans… and they are coming for the rest of us soon.

    We don’t wait until 2010 or 2012 to fight. We stand here, now, today. Push has officially come to shove. Conservatives must stop whining, unite and fight. As bad as it is… it can get worse, and it will if conservatives let it.

    Barack Obama ran on a centrist message. It was all a lie, but that no longer matters. The people bought it. Now it is up to the people to make him keep those centrist and even some conservative campaign promises. He had no intention of keeping any of those promises. But he made those promises and the people have a right and an obligation to make him keep those promises.

    If Obama retreats to his true nature after the election, as an anti-American anti-white hard left Arab appeaser, the American people, those who voted for him in particular, and even those who didn’t, have a right and an obligation to hold his feet to the fire.

    63 million voters set the stage and the rules of engagement. These 63 million Americans now have an obligation to make Obama keep his word. Let the games begin!

    Motorcycles

    .

    I was driving behind a motorcycle the other day and I noticed something odd. The driver waved at the driver of every single motorcycle we passed. I highly doubt he knew them all, yet they all waved back. Although I thought this was nice and it reminded me of living in a small town, I couldn't help but wonder if there was something I am missing? Am I expected to wave at the drivers of all the other full-size SUVs that I pass?

    Ariana's Prayers

    .

    Ariana's prayer is slightly different than Connor's. She somehow always works "going to grandma's house" into her prayer every time--even if we didn't go to grandma's house. After I'm done praying, her prayer goes something like this:

    "Ariana, would you like to pray?"

    "I do! I do! I do!!!

    Dear Heavenly Father,
    Thank you for dinner, mumble, mumble, mumble,
    mumble, mumble, mumble,
    we didn't go to grandma's house today,
    mumble, mumble, mumble,
    In Jesus' Name, Amen."

    Connor's Prayer

    .
    Connor likes to say his prayers as if he is simply repeating what he did for the day. He does this because when I pray with the kids, I usually take the time to thank God for at least 3-4 little things that I did individually with that child throughout the day and also one of our favorite songs to sing is the Thankfulness song by Veggie Tales.

    He says everything in all reverence and seriousness, but it is hard for me not to burst out laughing at times...especially when what he says should never be said in that serious of a tone of voice...

    "Dear Heavenly Father,

    I pray that we ate lunch today,
    and played with my costume,
    and played cowboys,
    and played team geo trax,
    and my peni is red***,
    and played guitar with daddy, but I couldn't play guitar because I broke the guitar,
    and ate dinner,
    and played with Jasmine,
    in Jesus' Name, Amen."


    ***Connor had a little accident a couple of days ago in which he had a battle with the toilet seat lid and lost...after a brief visit to the ER just to make sure everything was okay, he is doing just fine....but everyday he talks about his newest "owie"...can't wait for THAT conversation to stop!

    I Didn't Write This, But I NEEDED To Hear It.

    When disappointment comes, our hearts are discouraged and we are vulnerable to attacks by the enemy. In studying Isaiah this year, I have learned some pretty significant things that I am going to call upon in the coming days.

    • God is still on His throne. No matter what is going on, He has not taken a leave of absence…He is sovereign over kings and kingdoms. Isaiah37:16/ Daniel 2:21
    • When tough times come the enemy will:
      • Attempt to tell me that God has lied to me; that His promises are not secure
      • Attempt to tell me that He does not have my best interests at heart
      • Attempt to tell me that He is not sovereign
      • Attempt to discourage me and make me believe that all is hopeless; that I can’t trust Him for the outcome


    • God is holy and He expects holiness from His people (Isaiah 1-5). He has to judge sin and countries that reject Him, even and especially those who are called by His name.
    • He always has a remnant; those who continue love Him and His law; who believe His promises and wait for Him to act on their behalf. The remnant is made up of those who recognize His holiness and repent before Him. He promised throughout Isaiah to bring them safe and sound to His final place of refuge.
    • The remnant does not compromise
    • The remnant doesn’t look for alternative solutions when crises come; they wait upon the Lord to renew their strength.
    • The remnant doesn’t turn to man’s plans and strategies; the remnant looks to a holy God for answers.
    • The remnant waits with a steadfast mind, trusting in the Lord, knowing that He will act upon their behalf.
    • The remnant will receive His reward; they will be told someday, “Well-done, good and faithful servant.”
    • When we are disappointed we often blame others. Division and strife are the result. The enemy is pleased when he sees this happen, because he knows our effectiveness is lost.
    • Crisis drives us to our knees…this is a good thing. Perhaps we have been enjoying God’s blessings without the closeness He desires from us…perhaps we have grown too complacent to pray. There is nothing like distress and turmoil to drive us back to Him, where He is waiting with open arms.

    Some of us are feeling discouragement this morning, but take heart! God is working out His plan. The good news is that millions of Americans did choose and they will be accountable for their choice. Just as Moses stood before Israel on Mount Nebo to prepare them to enter the Promised Land by reminding them that God had placed before them a choice, America had the same option and has made her choice. We need to continue to pray for those who decided without the benefit of Scripture; America stands to reap a bitter harvest; she needs our steadfast hearts to continue our prayers and our involvement, because we have the Truth.

    Are we off the hook because of our disappointment? NO! Just because our favorite person/persons did not get elected does not mean that we can crawl under the covers and pout. It does mean that we have even harder work to do in the coming days. There are huge battles ahead, so do as an old friend suggested in times of disappointment, “give yourself a half an hour to put the pillow over your head and cry and scream and then get up, put on your battle gear and get busy…and get over it.”

    The good news is that we do have the ultimate victory! Let us, like Paul suggests in Philippians, “Rejoice; again I say rejoice!” We serve a mighty God, the Creator of the universe and He lives in our hearts.
